Woodworking for Kids provides kids with the opportunity to build wood projects, and at the same time, develop skills that fit well into their development needs.

Students build projects from raw wood stock

Students learn to use traditional hand tools in a safe and productive manner.

The workshop is in a converted school bus that now contains 10 workbenches.

Most projects are completed in a one hour session.

Each student will have his or her own fully equipped workbench. The workbenches are adjustable to their height.

The program is great for kids ages 5 to 12, but we have worked with autistic youth and adults.

• Developmentally appropriate projects are available for each student.
• Creativity - each project has a standard model to use as a guideline, but students are encouraged to put their own ideas into the design.
• Problem Solving - students are encouraged to figure out for themselves how to do each step, as opposed to being told.
• Self Control - Students are required to stay at their workbench and stay focused on their projects.
• Responsibility - Students are to keep their workbenches uncluttered for optimal safety.
• Safety - there are general work area rules as well as specific rules and procedures for using each tool.
